Motorists, usually, encounter swarms of these while driving during a four-week period.[45][46] Deer flies are particularly noticeable from April through June.[47] There were 596 manatees in Brevard County in 2009, out of a total of 3,802 in the state. The term “MLS” is considered generic in the United States and cannot be trademarked or branded. There is no single authoritative MLS and no universal data format. However, there is a data standard for MLS systems—the Real Estate Transaction Standard—which is being deployed across MLS solutions in North America.[2] Local and private databases use XML-based data feeds to generate and update listings. Listings disseminated through MLS may be controlled by a single association of realtors or groupings of associations which represent all brokers within a given community or area.

The county jail is a 1976 facility which rapidly became overcrowded. Voters rejected expanding the jail on four occasions.[118] The sheriff solved the problem by the construction of a large but less expensive “hardened tent” to house non-violent offenders. Crowding reached its peak in 2007 at 1,988 inmates, 300 over capacity. The budget for the facility was $42 million in 2010. There were 1,585 residents. Costs for feeding and housing was $72 per inmate daily. There were 475 staff members.[119]
Until the sale is a done deal, there’s still an opportunity to land that magical, marvelous dream home. In fact, there’s more wiggle room than you might expect, particularly if you’re looking in a market that’s competitive. Many sellers will want to hold out for the best bid—and that bid could be yours.
Florida is a large subtropical state that experiences hurricanes. Although Brevard county is located along Florida’s eastern peninsula, it is less frequently impacted by direct hurricane landfalls than portions of the Panhandle or South Florida. There are two predominant reasons for this. First, westward moving tropical systems often reach an atmospheric ridge weakness in the Bermuda High by the time they approach Florida at a latitude as northerly as Brevard County. Combined with frontal systems that exit the United States’ East Coast, many of these tropical systems are steered northwest and eventually curve northward offshore along Florida’s East Central Coast. A second reason is that hurricanes landfalling along the Florida peninsula Gulf Coast often weaken to a tropical storm by the time they move northeast to affect Brevard County (with some exceptions, such as 2004’s Charley). No major hurricane, defined as category 3 or higher, has ever struck Brevard since 1850, the beginning of recorded climate.[24]

The U.S. Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit in September 2005 against the National Association of Realtors over NAR’s policy which allowed brokers to restrict access to their MLS information from appearing on the websites of certain brokers which operate solely on the web.[38] This policy applied to commercial entities which are also licensed brokerages, such as HomeGain, which solicit clients by internet advertising and then provide referrals to local agents in return for a fee of 25% to 35% of the commission.

In 2010, 15,000 were estimated.[57] Local bird counts indicate that there are at least 163 species of birds in the county.[58] Other birds include the red-shouldered hawk,[59] the loggerhead shrike,[60] the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker,[61] Cooper’s hawks, pileated woodpeckers, Savannah sparrows,[52] rails (which also includes coots), Florida scrub jays (an endangered species), wood storks, grackles,[44] great horned owls,[62] northern mockingbirds, brown thrashers, catbirds,[63] green-winged teals, greater yellowlegs, western sandpipers, least sandpipers, dowitchers, and American white pelicans.[53] Peak migration in the fall is from the last week in September through the first week in October. Fall migration tends to be stronger than spring because birds typically take different flyways.[64]
MLS Today: In the UK there are a number of seedling MLS systems that attempt to connect agents horizontally. INEA,[20] Lonres[21] and AgentHub.com[22] are examples of sites that serve similar functions to US MLS counterparts, however there are insufficient data to conclude that any of these systems are used popularly across the country.

The Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is the master’s degree that is required for most professional librarian positions in the United States and Canada. The MLIS is a relatively recent degree; an older and still common degree designation for librarians to acquire is the Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree. According to the American Library Association (ALA), “The master’s degree in library and information studies is frequently referred to as the MLS; however, ALA-accredited degrees have various names such as Master of Information Studies, Master of Information, Master of Arts, Master of Librarianship, Master of Library and Information Studies, or Master of Science. The degree name is determined by the program. The [ALA] Committee for Accreditation evaluates programs based on their adherence to the Standards for Accreditation of Master’s Programs in Library and Information Studies, not based on the name of the degree.”[1]
In the late 1800s, real estate brokers regularly gathered at the offices of their local associations to share information about properties they were trying to sell. They agreed to compensate other brokers who helped sell those properties, and the first MLS was born, based on a fundamental principle that’s unique to organized real estate: Help me sell my inventory and I’ll help you sell yours.[1]

The MLIS/MLS curriculum can vary widely.[5] Typically both practical and theoretical components are included, often along with a practicum or internship, and students frequently have an opportunity to specialize in one or more aspects of library and information science. Some schools have stringent course requirements, while others are more flexible and offer a wide variety of electives. Coursework may entail traditional library topics, such as reference work, cataloging, collection development, school libraries, or archiving. There may also be a focus on information science and computer science topics, such as database design, as well as information architecture. Other skills taught may include management or pedagogy. Students generally complete a research project or thesis during the last semester of their program.
Most MLS systems restrict membership and access to real estate brokers (and their agents) who are appropriately licensed by the state (or province), are members of a local board or association of realtors, and are members of the applicable national trade association (e.g., NAR or CREA). Access is becoming more open (e.g., without joining the local board)[citation needed] as Internet sites offer the public the ability to view portions of MLS listings. There still remains some limitation to access to information within MLSes; generally, only agents who are compensated proportional to the value of the sale have uninhibited access to the MLS database. Many public Web forums have a limited ability in terms of reviewing comparable properties, past sales prices or monthly supply statistics. This represents the cornerstone of several ongoing arguments about the current health of the real-estate market, which are centered on free and open information being necessary for both the buying and selling parties to ensure fair prices are negotiated during closing, ultimately allowing a stable and less volatile market.
The MLIS or MLS degree is usually acquired from an accredited library school. ALA accredits 63 programs at 58 institutions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.[3] ALA also offers an overview of international degrees in library and information science.[4]
